The “Setsubun” Festival was held at Yakumo Hikawa Shrine the first time in 4 years.
Setsubun means the change of season.
We Japanese throw beans outside and say “Oni wa Soto!!” to take the evil spirits away.
Then we throw them towards the inside of the house and say “Fuku wa uchi!!” to let happiness in our homes.
And we eat sushi rolls called “Ehoumaki” on Setsubun.
Ehou means a lucky direction.
On Setsubun, we look towards each year’s lucky direction and eat the rolls to bring good luck 😊
